     Today, my teacher assigned us a project on vocabulary words in film that we should know. We were put in groups, and we have to make a PowerPoint presentation. For our category of vocabulary words, we got camera movement. We have to define words like pan, tilt, track, dolly, crane, steadcam, hand-held, zoom, reverse zoom, and aerial/bird’s eye. 

Definitions: 

Pan - a horizontal rotation of the camera, where it moves left and right

Tilt - vertical rotation of camera, where it moves up and down

Track - the camera follows a subject and moves with it

Dolly - when the camera moves towards or away from the subject

Crane - when a mechanical arm is used to move the camera

Steadcam - absorbs shake by mechanically isolating the operator’s movement, produces smooth tracking shots 

Hand-held - holding the camera to create an authentic environment and explores the character’s point of view

Zoom - when the camera lens is adjusted, focused on the subject without moving the camera

Reverse zoom - when the camera moves away from the subject while the camera is zooming in

Aerial/Bird’s eye - camera view from high above showcasing the environment and setting

8/22 Story board

      This week we learned how to make a story board and what goes into it. We learned about making shots and how to incorporate them into making our story boards.        Today in class, we worked on putting together our story for our first short film that we are going to make. We worked on making our story boards. As a group, we went scene by scene, figuring out what each scene is going to look like and what is going to be in it.       Our story will be about a girl who befriends an odd girl. Their friendship starts off just as awkward as any other friendship between teenage girls.  However, it goes very wrong when the creepy girls' evil intentions are revealed as being a spirit who is trying to take the girls' form. We decided that our short film will be mostly filmed in school.

9/12/2025 Guest Speaker + Movie Poster

    This week, we worked on our movie poster and we had a guest speaker come and talk about the program he works for.     For our movie poster, we decided to have something simple, yet still give that horror effect. We titled our movie Let’s Be Friends. We included who does what, like who is starring in it, who is directing it, and who edits it. This is our movie poster:      Later in the week, we had a guest speaker, Jim Guarasci, from ShortCutsTV. He talked about this program that is dedicated for high school students who are interested in further pursuing a career in film. This program allows for aspiring student filmmakers so have access to equipment that allows for better production for their films. Jim also talked about ways to make good films.  Story Arc: the introduction and the set up is where we get to know the characters, the conflict is where a change/conflict occurs, and the resolution is where that problem is solved.  Story...

8/18 Camera Shots

    Today in class we learned about the different camera shots. I learned that there are nine different shot sizes: establishing, master, wide, full, medium full/ cowboy, medium, medium close up, close up, and extreme close up (can also be an insert shot).      I found it very interesting that every shot size spreads a message about the environment, characters, or the plot.      After, my class went to the courtyard, and we practiced taking pictures with the nine shot sizes. I went up the stairs to take my establishing shot. I asked my friends to be my "models". Then, we learned how to use our google drive by uploading our pictures and download it to our computers onto a folder.
